Ten percent of South Africa's population owns 90 percent of the country's wealth, while the wealthiest 10 percent earns seven times more than the bottom 40 percent. This is according to a report on equality released by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on Thursday, Business Day reported.

It was reported in 2016 that the man was reinstated in his provincial government job after being suspended on full pay, which further incensed those he had offended.

The latest employment equity report shows a resounding lack of employment equity compliance, with the majority of offenders being companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Other major issues are whites still dominating top positions, Africans (blacks) not being promoted to higher positions while constantly being provided training, and an increasing employment of foreigners.
Oliphant told reporters on Thursday that she was disappointed that there were still non-complying employers.
“It is still clear that some employers don’t respect the Constitution of the country,” she said.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will be holding an inquiry on Thursday into the recent disruptive protest at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital. Last month, hundreds of workers shut down the hospital over unpaid bonuses. The commission has expressed concern over the negative impact the protest had on patients who were either forced out of the building or denied entry.
