Media Advisory: The SAHRC Northern Cape Provincial Office to conduct a Human Rights Engagement with the Northern Cape Department of Education

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) in the Northern Cape Province will be conducting a human rights engagement with the Northern Cape Department of Education aimed at addressing key issues related to human rights in the education sector.

The Human Rights Engagement with the Northern Cape Department of Education will provide a platform to discuss and address critical human rights concerns affecting learners and educators in the province. The engagement will focus on the following key areas:

  • Admissions for learners in Grades 1 and 8.
  • Availability and distribution of learning and teaching support materials.
  • Stationery and school uniforms.
  • School infrastructure and facilities.
  • Shortage of teaching and/or critical support staff, if any.
  • Learner transport services.
  • Implementation of the National School Nutrition Programme.

 

The human rights engagement will further pay attention to issues of equality and discrimination at schools, bullying and violence in schools as well as codes of conduct for schools.

The engagement is scheduled to take place as follows:

Venue : Garden Court Kimberley (120 Du Toitspan Road), Kimberley
