The South African Human Rights Commission Gauteng Provincial Office (GPO) will visit Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH) on 24 April 2024.
The hospital is an accredited central hospital, which serves patients from across the Gauteng province, as well as neighbouring provinces. Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital offers a full range of tertiary, secondary and highly specialised services.
The visit follows the Commissions visits since 2021 after a fire that broke out on 16 April 2021, destroying parts of the hospital, medical goods worth R40 million, as well as a large amount of personal protective equipment.
The visit to the hospital seeks to assess the extent of the progress made in rebuilding the sections of the hospital affected by the fire. In addition, the Commission wants to assess the effect the reconstruction has had on the patient care.
