The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/ the Commission) will be convening an investigative inquiry into scholar transport challenges in the North West. In terms of section 184(2) of the Constitution, the Commission has the power to investigate and report on the observance of human rights and take steps to secure appropriate redress where human rights have been violated. To give effect to these powers, in terms of section 15 (1) (b) of the South African Human Rights Commission’s Act, 40 of 2013, the Commission may require from any person such particulars and information as may be reasonably necessary in connection with any investigation. In terms of Chapter 8 of the Commission’s Complaints Handling Procedures, the Commission may conduct hearings to solicit particulars and information required in connection with an investigation.

Following the release of its KwaZulu Natal Water Inquiry Report in September 2023, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/the Commission) is continuing with the programme to visit District Municipalities to monitor progress on the implementation of its recommendations, and to assess the state of human rights in the respective regions.

It is reported that water supplied from the Magalies Klipdrift Water Treatment Plant is safe for consumption.
