The conference is facilitated through the Commission’s Child Rights Unit (CRU) and is funded by the United Nations Emergency Children’s Fund (UNICEF), themed: "Education is a Human Right”.

The Commission has also noted a statement issued on 17 February 2025 by Zanzou management confirming the veracity of the videos.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/ the Commission) expresses deep concern over the tragic killing of Imam Muhsin Hendricks, widely known as world's 'first openly gay imam' who was fatally shot in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape on 15 February 2025. Details of his killing emerged via footage which was widely shared on social media over the weekend. The Commission extends its condolences to his family, friends, and the communities he served.

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC/the Commission) national investigative inquiry into the Impact of Load Reduction on Human Rights is set to continue on 17 and 18 February 2025. Whilst the inquiry was initially scheduled to continue on 18 February 205, the sitting on 17 February 2025 was necessitated by the receipt of additional submissions from affected communities and other relevant stakeholders since the last inquiry sitting.

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC/the Commission) Gauteng Provincial Office (GPO) confirms that it has received several complaints concerning unplaced learners in Gauteng for the 2025 academic year. These learners are those who should be attending school, including in schools for learners with special educational needs (LSEN) and centres, but have not been allocated a place in any school yet.

On 4 February 2025 the South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) met with the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, and the Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen; and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Rosemary Nokuzola Capa. The engagement sought to enrich the national discourse on the food safety implications of the contamination of food products from spaza shops and other places by agricultural pesticides, especially Terbufos.
