“Even though her death is a major loss to the people of this country, we are nonetheless grateful that through her lifelong contribution to the struggle for the creation of a society that is based on the values of freedom, equality and human dignity of all, she leaves a solid legacy that has to be preserved.”

It is through her sacrifices and that of giants like her late husband Walter Sisulu and former President Mr Nelson Mandela, that South Africa today has a constitution that is hailed all over the world.

Adv Mushwana says that the Commission recommits itself to using the power of its mandate by continuing to act as a voice for those who are still vulnerable and marginalized. These are the same people for whom Ms Sisulu fought throughout her life.
He added that South Africa has to ensure that the ideals which Ms Sisulu fought for become a reality for all and this can be done through the eradication of the challenges of racism, xenophobia, sexism and other inequalities.

 “We wish her family strength as they grapple with this very difficult period,” he said.
