SAHRC Press Briefing on National dialogue on Business & Human Rights

MEDIA INVITATION – PRESS BRIEFING

Attention: Editors and Reporters

9 March 2018

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will be hosting a Dialogue on Business and Human Rights on 13 and 14 March 2018 at the Capital Moloko Hotel, Johannesburg to discuss critical issues with regard to the impact of business on human rights across primary stakeholder groups, including government, business and civil society. This dialogue is a pinnacle event for the SAHRC’s Head Office during March 2018, Human Rights Month.

Since 2013, the SAHRC has sought to promote an awareness and understanding of the impact of business on human rights in South Africa. The SAHRC seeks to build on its past activities and improve collaboration between the State, business, and civil society, to progressively strengthen the responsibility business carries in respect of human rights.

The Dialogue is intended to further the SAHRC’s mandate in promoting and protecting human rights by improving collaboration between the State, business and civil society on certain pressing business and human rights issues. The dialogue further seeks to distil key human rights issues emanating from business sectors in South Africa and enhance public understanding and awareness of the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in upholding and protecting human rights.

A Press Briefing will be held at 13:20 PM to 14:00 PM on the 13th March 2018.

The press briefing will be hosted as follows:

Venue:         The Capital Moloko Hotel, 160 Helen Road, Strathavon, Sandton, 2031
