SAHRC Gauteng Office reconvenes an investigative hearing into allegations of unfair discrimination, racism, sexism and harassment at Unisa

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) Gauteng Provincial Office will convene the final leg of the hearings relating to the investigation into allegations of unfair discrimination, racism, sexism and harassment at the University of South Africa (UNISA) from 08 – 10 May 2018.

The hearing started on 20 February 2018 following a request from the UNISA’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Mandla Makhanya, to investigate allegations of unfair discrimination, racism, sexism and harassment at the UNISA College of Law.
During the first sitting of the hearing, the Commission invited staff members at the College of Law, unions and management at UNISA, to present oral and written submissions to the investigation panel. During the second sitting, staff members, interested parties and the UNISA management, will have an opportunity to present their oral testimonies to the panel.
Following allegations of widespread racism and lack of transformation at UNISA, the Commission has decided to broaden the scope of the investigation to cover the entire institution.

The hearing will take place as follows:
