Media Invite: SAHRC Free State Provincial Office in collaboration with NICRO will be hosting a roundtable discussion on human rights and school safety

On the 25-27 September 2018, the South African Human Rights Commission in collaboration with NICRO embarked on a series of information sessions on Children’s Rights and Responsibilities at schools in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality.

Through the information sessions hosted the learners from some of the schools acknowledged that criminal activities at their schools pose a threat to their right to education and safety at their schools. The roundtable discussion will give learners an opportunity to address the impact crime has on human rights and also come up with strategies on how to protect their rights and ensure that their schools are safe.

The roundtable discussion is also an opportunity for the Commission to directly interact with the children, to also address the increasing levels of violence in schools and to increase the Commission’s visibility, as well as promote its mandate. Information and promotional material will be disseminated.
