Among the most marginalised and invisible in South African society are workers in informal and semi-formal sectors, which are inadequately regulated. These workers include domestic workers, gardeners, care givers, hawkers, nannies, and taxi operators. These workers operate on the margins of the mainstream South African economy, and as a result are often not protected from various human rights violations in the workplace.
In a bid to reach this demographic to inform them of their human rights, the South African Human Rights Commission’s Free State Provincial Office will be conducting Legal Clinics/Help Desks in similarly informal spaces. Staff will be holding consultations, providing advice, and taking complaints.
