Media Advisory: SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office to commemorate Human Rights Day at Ehlazeni District Municipality, Mbombela

Attention: Editors and Reporters

19 March 2019

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Mpumalanga Provincial office, will be commemorating its Human Rights Day to create awareness on the rights of Lesbians Gays Bisexuals Transgender Intersexual Queers (LGBTIQs). The day is commemorated annually on 21 March to remind all South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy in the country.

The commemoration aims at encouraging and empowering vulnerable groups, such as LGBTIQs to actively participate in community development issues, seek legal advices, and lodge complaints with the Commission and other relevant institutions if and when their human rights are violated.  It also aims to build a strong working relationship with stakeholders and community organisations/structures in order to ensure respect for and protection as well as promotion of human rights.

The event will take place as follows:

Date:                      20 March 2019

Venue:                   Orion Hotel (Promenade Hotel), Nelspruit

Time:                     10h00 – 15h00
