SAHRC to attend Farlam Inquiry

19 October 2012

ATTENTION: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission will be in attendance when the Farlam Commission resumes its work in to the Marikana Investigation on Monday, 22nd October 2012.

The Commission believes strongly in the importance of the Farlam Commission and, as the national human rights institution, sees itself as a supportive participant in the process of national importance and not as an additional or parallel investigative body during the same process.

The Commission’s Chairperson Adv. Lawrence Mushwana will lead the Commission delegation at the Farlam Commission on Monday next week.
The Commission has also acquired the expert legal assistance of the Centre for Applied Legal Studies, CALS, to act as our attorneys of record during our participation in the Farlam Commission.

The Commission will hold a press briefing on Monday in Rustenburg to discuss its proposed work in respect of the causes and consequences of the Marikana incident and its participation in and contribution to the Farlam Commission. More details will be sent in due course.
