Media Alert: SAHRC to hold a public meeting with the City Of Tshwane aimed at addressing water quality concerns in Hammanskraal

The South Africa Human Rights Commission (Gauteng Provincial Office), the City of Tshwane and the Department of Water and Sanitation will hold a public meeting in Hammanskraal on Tuesday, 26 March 2019, to report back on progress made in addressing water quality concerns in the area.

On 11 March 2019, the Commission conducted follow up inspection in the area after complaints about the appearance, odour and taste of the water supplied were raised. Subsequent to this inspection, the City of Tshwane agreed to take steps to meaningfully engage with water users and residents on all aspects related to water supply in the area. In order to achieve a sustainable reconciliation of the varying interests, the Commission and the Department of Water and Sanitation will be part of the meeting in an honest endeavour to find mutually acceptable solutions.
