Media Advisory: The SAHRC to conduct a site inspection of Mamelodi Hospital following numerous complaints of ill-treatment of patients by medical staff

Attention: Editors and reporters

Date: 10 June 2019

The South African Human Rights Commission will conduct a site inspection of the Mamelodi Hospital on Tuesday, 11 June 2019, as it continues with its investigation into the public health system in the province.

The Commission’s investigation seeks to examine a number of factors, including the quality and access to healthcare services for vulnerable groups, human resources, physical infrastructure and equipment at the hospital.

The investigation follows the harrowing video showing Mrs Martha Marais chained underneath a Mamelodi Hospital bench. The Commission will use this site visit to engage with all relevant stakeholders concerning the above issues.

The site visit to Mamelodi Hospital will take place as follows:
Date: 11 June 2019
Time: 11:00
