Media Invite: SAHRC KwaZulu – Natal Office to screen a documentary entitled “Last Chance” in commemoration of World Refugee Day.

In commemoration of World Refugee Day, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will host the screening of a documentary entitled “Last Chance”. The documentary is part of “The OTHER People’s Film Festival,” an initiative of the Refugee Social Services.

On 04 December 2000, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution declaring 20 June as “World Refugee Day”. In this resolution, the General Assembly noted that 2001 marked the 50th Anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, which draws attention to the millions of refugees and Internally displaced persons worldwide, who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict and persecution.
