Media Invite: SAHRC North West Provincial stakeholder engagement

Attention: Editors and Reporters

18 July 2019

On 18 and 19 July 2019, the North West Provincial Office of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will commemorate Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela Day).  The Mandela Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on the 18th July. The day was officially declared by the United Nations (UN) in November 2009 with the first Mandela Day - recognised by the UN - held on the 18th July 2010.

SAHRC North West provincial office will commemorate Mandela Day by visiting old age homes in Rustenburg and Brits. The North West Provincial Office will use the Mandela Day commemoration to share information on human rights with the residents of the homes, to monitor living conditions in the homes and to make donations.

The SAHRC North West office will also host a number of interventions and stakeholder engagements with a view to promote/raise awareness on basic human rights, to build sustainable working relations with communities and to provide a platform for communities to engage with the Commission and other stakeholders on matters that affect them.
