Media Advisory: The South African Human Rights Commission to conduct an Inspection in Kliptown following allegations of human rights violations

On Monday, 19 August 2019 the South African Human Rights Commission (“The Commission”) will conduct a site inspection of Kliptown in the South-West of Johannesburg. This inspection follows allegations from the residents detailing several human rights violations in Kliptown.

The purpose of this inspection is to assess the veracity of the allegations relating to the lack of basic services and socio-economic challenges in the area. This is all despite millions being allocated to the regeneration of Kliptown.  This inspection will form the first phase of the Commission’s investigation into the above allegations.

The Inspection and the community meeting will take place as follows:
