The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will host a capacity building workshop on its “Train the Trainer Manual” at the University of Zululand (UniZulu) in Kwadlangezwa, and a media engagement with Media 24 publications in Pietermaritzburg.

The Train the Trainer intervention is designed to capacitate street law students at the UniZulu on basic human rights, and the role and mandate of institutions supporting constitutional democracy; to develop a better understanding of human rights; assist street law students in identifying human rights violations and referring them to the relevant institutions; to enable street law students to share the information with communities, stakeholders, students etc.; and to build sustainable working relations with the street law students.

The purpose of the media engagement is to develop strategic partnerships with the media and explore challenges facing the media in human rights reporting and coverage and the media’s role during human rights violations.  Furthermore, the engagement will use the platform to address the media on current events, the state of human rights in KwaZulu-Natal and share updates on advocacy interventions, notable investigations and litigation matters.
