Media Invite: SAHRC Mpumalanga provincial office hosts information sessions on Women's Rights

Attention: Editors and Reporters

27 August 2018

The South African Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”), Mpumalanga Provincial Office will be conducting information sessions on the rights of women under the theme: “Fighting Gender-based Violence against Women.” Women and girls continue to experience violence in their daily lives. They are beaten, coerced into sex or abused usually by someone they know or by a stranger.  Almost every day, women and children are raped and killed in the province.

Gender-based violence is rooted in gender-based discrimination, social norms and gender stereotypes. The aim of the information sessions is to empower women and girls about their rights as well as to promote gender equality. Women’s rights are human rights. Further, to raise awareness about the role and mandate of the Commission as well as to register complaints relating to their human rights violations.
