Media Invite: SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office hosts an Information Session on Women's Rights

Attention: Editors and Reporters

26 August 2019

The South African Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”), Mpumalanga Provincial Office will be conducting an information session on the rights of women under the theme: “Fighting Gender-based Violence against Women.” Women and girls continue to experience violence in their daily lives. They are killed, raped and abused in many other ways often by someone they know, and sometimes by a stranger daily in the province.

Gender-based violence is rooted in gender-based discrimination, social norms and gender stereotypes. The aim of the information session is to empower women and girls about their rights as well as to promote gender equality. Further, to raise awareness about the role and mandate of the Commission as well as to register complaints relating to their human rights violations.
