The South African Human Rights Commission (The Commission) will be conducting a water- site inspection in Stinkwater and Hammanskraal. The Commission will be assessing the progress made by the City of Tshwane in addressing the community’s concerns on water quality. This inspection follows the report made by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 2018 stating that the groundwater in Stinkwater and Hammanskraal contains concentrations of nitrates and phosphates and is not safe for human consumption.
The inspection will gauge the progress that the City of Tshwane has made on this particular matter and the broader issue of the quality of water in Tshwane.
Details of the inspection are as follows:
Date: 10 October 2019
