The South African Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”), Mpumalanga Provincial Office (MPO), will be hosting a community dialogue on socio-economic challenges and the impact of mining and lack of housing at Emalahleni Local Municipality.
The dialogue is part of the five-day provincial visit plan of the Commissioner responsible for the focal areas on the rights to housing, water, sanitation and business and human rights together with the Commissioner for the focal areas of land, environment and the right to food.
The dialogue will be targeting community members, community based organisations, the municipality and the mining sector representatives. It is aimed at promoting the work of the Commission by instilling the culture of human rights in the province. Further, to mainly understand challenges faced by households on the right to housing, the environment, water and sanitation or lack thereof and the impact of mining on communities.
The dialogue is scheduled to take place as follows:
