Media Advisory: SAHRC Commissioner Angie Makwetla to conduct a provincial visit in the North West Province

The Commissioner responsible for the rights of Children and Migrants in the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Commissioner Angie Makwetla, will be conducting a Provincial Visit in the North West Province from 28 October 2019 to 1 November 2019.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the observance of the rights of Children and Migrants and to strengthen cooperation between the SAHRC, the North West Provincial Government, relevant organs of state, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders involved in the protection and promotion of the rights of children and migrants in the North West Province.

As part of her provincial visit, Commissioner Makwetla will:

  • Promote children and migrant’s right;
  • Intervene in complaints relating to children and migrants;
  • Meet MEC for Social Development other relevant officials; Engage with various NGOs and relevant stakeholders working on children and migrants’ right to understand challenges that they face and to facilitate a working relationship;
  • Conduct inspections in loco at selected child care centres and schools in the North West Province.

Commemoration of International Children’s day at Naledi Christian School in Potchefstroom at 10h00.

Visit Morester Children’s village in Bleskop at 14h00

Stakeholder engagement meeting with Department of Home Affairs at 14h00

Meeting with Department of Social Development task team for teenage pregnancy in the Province.

Visit Thakaneng Child care centre in Potchefstroom at 14h00.
