Media Advisory: SAHRC calls Gauteng MEC’s and the City of Tshwane to account for poor service delivery and gross underdevelopment in Ekangala and Kungwini region

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) has called the Gauteng MEC’s and the City of Tshwane to account for the service delivery complaints and gross underdevelopment in Ekangala and Kungwini region.
This preliminary inquiry follows the public outreach engagement that the SAHRC’s Gauteng Office conducted on the 24 June 2019 which revealed numerous socio-economic rights violations such as the lack of service delivery, lack of access to adequate housing and evictions in the region.
The Commission will hear oral submissions from:
•    Acting Mayor of City of Tshwane,       Mr Abel Tau
•    MEC for Economic Development,       Ms Morakane Mosupyoe
•    MEC for Education and Youth Development, Mr Panyaza Lesufi.
•    MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and COGTA, Mr Lebogang Isaac Maile and Community Leaders.
