Media Advisory: SAHRC Commissioner Angie Makwetla to conduct a provincial visit in the KwaZulu-Natal Province

The Commissioner responsible for the rights of Children and Migrants in the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Commissioner Angie Makwetla, will be conducting a Provincial Visit in the KwaZulu-Natal Province from 2 December 2019 to 6 December 2019.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the observance of the rights of Children and Migrants and to strengthen cooperation between the SAHRC, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, relevant organs of state, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders involved in the protection and promotion of the rights of children and migrants in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

As part of her provincial visit, Commissioner Makwetla will:
•    Promote children and migrant’s right;
•    Intervene in complaints relating to children and migrants;
•    Meet MEC for Social Development other relevant officials; Engage with various NGOs and relevant stakeholders working on children and migrants’ right to understand challenges that they face and to facilitate a working relationship;
•    Conduct inspections in loco at selected child care centres and schools in the KwaZulu-Natal;
•    Attend and participate at the Children’s Parliament.
