ATTENTION: Editors and Reporters
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) invites members of the media to the Inspection of projects to enclosed toilets in Rammolutsi (Viljoenskroon) in the Free State Province.
The inspection follows a complaint lodged in September 2010 by the residents of Rammolutsi Township near Viljoenskroon with the Commission after the Moqhaka Local Municipality installed unenclosed toilets in the township.
The municipality has since reported that it has tendered out the sanitation system and hired temporary toilets in Rammolutsi which, it’s believed, have long stopped working which led to residents protesting.
The purpose of the inspection by SAHRC is to assess and verify the allegations that Moqhaka Municipality has enclosed 1,831 toilets including those that were demolished by the residents as per current progress report submitted to the Commission.
The Inspection will be held as follows:
Date: Tuesday 9 April 2013
Time: 10:00 am
Venue: Rammolutsi (Viljoenskroon) Free State Province (224 km from Johannesburg and 270 km from Bloemfontein)
The Inspection will be attended by SAHRC Deputy Chairperson Dr Pregs Govender, who is responsible for basic services and representatives from the Municipality and Department of Human Settlement.
