Media Advisory: SAHRC Commissioner Angie Makwetla to conduct a provincial visit in the Northern Cape Province

The Commissioner responsible for the rights of Children and Migrants in the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Commissioner Angie Makwetla, will be conducting a Provincial Visit in the Northern Cape Province from 20 January 2020 to 24 January 2020.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the observance of the rights of Children and Migrants and to strengthen cooperation between the SAHRC, the Northern Cape Provincial Government, relevant organs of state, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders involved in the protection and promotion of the rights of children and migrants in the province.

As part of her provincial visit, Commissioner Makwetla will:
•    Promote children and migrant’s right;
•    Intervene in complaints relating to children and migrants;
•    Meet MEC for Social Development other relevant officials; Engage with various NGOs and relevant stakeholders working on children and migrants’ right to understand challenges that they face and to facilitate a working relationship;
•    Conduct inspections in loco at selected child care centres and schools
•    Attend and participate at the Children’s Parliament.
