Media Advisory: SAHRC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Office and the Free State Provincial Office will jointly host/conduct a cross border roadshow near/adjacent to KZN- Free State border

Attention: Editors and Reporters

24 February 2020

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Office and the Free State Provincial Office will jointly host/ conduct a cross boarder roadshow near or adjacent to the KwaZulu-Natal - Free State border on the 23 – 28 February 2020.

The cross border roadshow is intended to service the areas that are near or adjacent to the border of the two provinces, and seeks to increase visibility of the Commission and ensure easy access to the Commissions services.

The roadshow is designed to raise awareness on the role and mandate of the Commission and to increase the prospects of individual and community driven rights assertion; to inform communities about their rights and responsibilities (children, general public, health care users, detained persons etc.); and to monitor the observance and adherence to human rights in the different facilities (detention facilities, children’s home etc.). The roadshow will further provide a platform for communities to engage directly with the Commission on matters that affect them, and to lodge complaints of human rights violations.
