Media Advisory: The South African Human Rights Commission Calls a Press Briefing to Update the Media and the Public on Its Investigation into Brackenfell High

23 November 2020
Attention: Editors and Reporters

On Tuesday, 24 November 2020, the South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission or the SAHRC) will conduct a Press Briefing at its Western Cape Office, in Cape Town, on the circumstances around Brackenfell High and the Commissions interventions therein.

The briefing comes as result of allegations of racism that emerged in relation to the convening of a matric function for a number of Brackenfell High learners.  These allegations have led to protest action outside the school, resulting in well documented incidences of violence on several occasions. The Commission has therefore initiated an investigation in light of these occurrences.

Details of Press Briefing are as follows:
Date: 24 November 2020
Time: 10h00 AM
Place: 7th Floor ABSA Building,
132 Adderley Street,
Cape Town
