The SAHRC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Office will conduct Human Rights Champions’ Training in Dundee, Endumeni Municipality. The training will target all Ward Committee Members and Civil Society within the municipal boundaries of Endumeni Local Municipality.
The training aims to empower Human Rights Champions on the role they play in supporting democracy, the mandate of the SAHRC and protecting the rights of impoverished communities.
The key objectives of the training is to promote a culture of human rights; to develop a better understanding of human rights and strengthen the realisation of human rights; enable participants to assist in identifying human rights violations within the communities that they serve; provide a platform to engage on issues affecting communities and ways in which these could be addressed; enable participants to refer complaints to the Commission; to enable participants to further conduct human rights and constitutional awareness with their communities; enhance sustainable working relationships; and to establish and recognise participants as Human Rights Champions.
The Commission will also be conducting monitoring at an old age home, and facility caring for persons with disabilities. The Commission will be monitoring the observance of human rights at these facilities, and compliance with relevant legal prescripts regulating such facilities.
The human rights champion training is scheduled as follows:
