In 2021, South Africa commemorates Human Rights Month under the theme: “The year of Charlotte Maxeke: promoting human rights in the Age of COVID-19”.
The North West provincial office of the South African Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”) recognises the significance of Human Rights Month in South Africa and has embarked on various systemic interventions to protect, promote and monitor human rights. These included:
• monitoring places of detention to assess the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty in the in the North West Province;
• addressing complainants of human rights violations to secure appropriate redress.
• promotion of human rights in the Age of COVID-19.
• celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa
On 29 to 31 March 2021, the Commission in the North West will continue commemorating Human Rights Months by hosting various interventions in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality as follows:
