Media Advisory - The South African Human Rights Commission to Conduct a Site Inspection at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital

On Tuesday, 01 June 2021, the South African Human Rights Commission (“The Commission”) will conduct a site inspection of Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital following a fire that broke out on 16 April 2021.
The inspection seeks to assess the extent of the damage and progress made by the contractors in remedying the situation.  Furthermore, the Commission has become aware of allegations pertaining to the structural integrity of the hospital and the prejudice allegedly suffered by the patients of the institution. This inspection will include engagements with Department of Health officials, hospital management, and the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development.

The Inspection will take place as follows:
