The Public Protector South Africa (PPSA) and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will this week reveal the outcomes of a joint-investigation launched a little over two years ago on the back of a spate of violent service delivery protests in Alexandra township, north of Johannesburg.
In April 2019, the Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane and Chairperson of the SAHRC, Adv. Bongani Majola announced the investigation following a meeting during which they discussed what was, at the time, a volatile situation in the township over, with a view to finding long lasting solutions to residents' grievances.
The investigation has since been concluded and two reports – the PPSA’s focusing on maladministration while the SAHRC’s deals with human rights violations – will be released during a virtual, joint media briefing to be held as follows:
