Media Advisory: The South African Human Rights Commission to host a stakeholder engagement with NGOs on the Vaal River Intervention Implementation Plan

27 August 2021

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission, Gauteng Provincial Office will be hosting a Stakeholder Engagement on the Vaal River System Intervention Implementation Plan.

This stakeholder engagement is aimed at exploring and formalising a partnership with non-governmental stakeholders in the Sedibeng District in monitoring the sewage clean up exercise and infrastructure remediation work currently underway. Furthermore, it is aimed at finding solutions and encouraging collaboration between stakeholders to resolve challenges in the Emfuleni Local Municipality and work towards halting further pollution to the Vaal River.

The Commission was and remains extremely concerned with previous and current interventions and the lack of reporting and information sharing by stakeholders on their respective roles in relation to the remediation of the wastewater infrastructure in the Emfuleni Local Municipality.

The Stakeholder Engagement will take place as follows:
Date: 30 August 2021
Time: 10:00-14:00
Venue: Quest Conference Estate, Vanderbiljpark
