Attention: Editors and Reporters
The South African Human Rights Commission, Gauteng Provincial Office will conduct a fact-finding visit as part of its monitoring mandate at Temba Water Purification Plant and Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Works, after it was reported recently that the quality of water produced at the plant has severely deteriorated leaving the City of Tshwane with no choice but to temporarily shut down the plant.
The fact finding visit is aimed at establishing the causes of reported equipment failures and the circumstances that led to the residents of Hammanskraal being supplied with water of poor quality. Furthermore, the visit is aimed at assessing the impact of the river pollution on farms along the Apies River and to gauge progress made on the work currently taking place at the Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Works.
The visit will take place as follows:
Date: 2 September 2021
Time: 11:30
Venue: Temba Water Purification Plant, Hammanskraal (11:30) and Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Works (12:45)
