MEDIA ADVISORY: The SAHRC in the North West will conduct Capacity Building Workshops on the right to equality

13 September 2021

ATTENTION: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) North West Provincial Office, working with the Department of Justice and Community Advice Office South Africa, will conduct capacity building workshops on the right to equality.

The SAHRC notes with concern that, despite the dawn of freedom and democracy, and notwithstanding the gains achieved thus far, considerable challenges remain in respect of the advancement of the right to equality for all.

In March 2021, the SAHRC published the Equality Toolkit which serves as a generic resource which may be referenced by stakeholders in efforts to deepen and strengthen levels of awareness about the right to equality and structures that can help with equality related violations, with a specific focus on Equality Courts and the SAHRC. The workshops are also aimed at disseminating the Equality Toolkit and publicising the information contained therein.
