Media Release: SAHRC Limpopo Provincial Office will be conducting a 4 day hearing on access to water

The SAHRC Limpopo Provincial Office (LPO) will be conducting a hearing on access to water in Limpopo from 19 to 22 October 2021 in Polokwane.


The hearing will be focusing into access to water and the efficacy of water services authorities within the Limpopo Province.

The hearing is aimed at establishing the following:

-    The extent of the challenges experienced by the communities in Limpopo relating to access to clean drinking water;
-    Adequacy of measures put in place to address the challenges experienced above;
-    Adequacy of short, medium and long term plans to address challenges experienced by the communities relating to the above.
-    Causes of the challenges experienced by the communities; and
-    The systemic nature of the violations set out above;

Community members, NGOs, relevant Government Departments and Municipalities have been identified to appear and give evidence during the hearing.

The Commission hopes that the inquiry will assist in making findings and recommendations to secure appropriate redress in so far as the right to access sufficient water is concerned in the Limpopo Province.

The Hearing will be followed by a Media Briefing on 22 October 2021 at 15h25 - 16h30
