Media Alert: SAHRC to Host the Second Monthly Media Briefing, to be Held Friday, 29 October 2021

The South African Human Rights Commission (the SAHRC or the Commission) in line with its Constitutional mandate, will host the second of its regular, monthly media briefings, on Friday the 29th October 2021 at 11:00 AM.


The briefing will be led by the Chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission, Advocate Bongani Majola and the Deputy Chairperson, Fatima Chohan. The relevant Commissioners, the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer and relevant Provincial Managers will provide support.

This monthly media will specifically focus on:
1.    The National Investigative Hearing into the July 2021 Unrest,  Especially within Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal Provinces
2.    The Protection of Children’s Rights in Child and Youth Care Centres (CYCCs) and Secure Care Centres (SCC)
3.    Continued concerns related to certain Local Government service delivery failures, and the impact on human rights:
a.    The release of the report on Tuesday, 26th October 2021, following the Hammanskraal Water and Sanitation Inquiry. The report was launched in Hammanskraal.
b.    The current hearing In Mpumalanga on service delivery.
