The role of champions is to assist the SAHRC in the execution of its mandate by strengthening real time access to communities and access to justice and serve as a link between the Commission and communities. In addition the development of local champions aims to empower vulnerable communities to access and realise their human rights and to also deepen an understanding of human rights.
The equality toolkit will be rolled out to educate the champions on the role of the equality court and the right to equality.
Various monitoring of schools, places of older persons, persons living with disabilities, detention centres, equality courts and vaccination sites will be conducted.
