This monthly media will specifically focus on the SAHRC approach to the High Court to obtain a structural interdict toward the elimination of pit latrines at schools across South Africa
As this is the final Monthly Media Briefing hosted by the South African Human Rights Commission for the year 2021, the Commission would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the media for playing an essential role in facilitating the SAHRC in fulfilling its Constitutional mandate. The Commission is constitutionally mandated to protect, promote and monitor the observance and attainment of human rights within South Africa.
Through a free press, the Commission has been alerted to human rights violations, which enabled it to monitor the state of human rights enabling the Commission to exercise its protection mandate when required, proactively. Through reporting on the Commission and the work of the Commission, the SAHRC has been able to promote human rights and inform and educate the public about their rights and how these can be asserted and protected.
