Media Advisory: SAHRC Western Cape Provincial Office will conduct a capacity building workshop for the CAOSA executive in Worcester

Attention: Editors and Reporters

10 March 2022

The South African Human Rights Commission Western Cape provincial office (WCPO) working in collaboration with the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) and the office of the Public Protector South Africa will conduct a capacity building workshop for the Western Cape provincial executive of Community Advice Offices South Africa (CAOSA).   This capacity building workshop is aimed at empowering the CAOSA executive by heightening awareness about human rights and structures that can help with redress for human rights violations with a specific focus on the role of the Chapter Institutions in promoting, monitoring and protecting human rights.

The capacity-building workshop will enable participants to assist in identifying human rights violations in their communities and to refer them to the Commission, to conduct human rights awareness and constitutional education and to conduct human rights monitoring within their communities.

The WCPO has also planned a trip to the Worcester Magistrates Court to provide these human rights champions with an opportunity to engage with officials from the local Equality Court as part of their development.
