Media Release: SAHRC Limpopo Provincial Office to conduct workshop on political and civil rights focusing on the Constitutional Mandate of the SAHRC, OPCAT and the role of the NPM

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) Limpopo Provincial Office in collaboration with the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) will conduct a workshop on civil and political rights with a focus on the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT).

The workshop will target the South African Police Service and Department of Correctional Services officials, to empower them on the constitutional mandate of the SAHRC, and the role of the NPM as the national component of the preventive system established by the OPCAT and its mandate to conduct regular monitoring visits to all types of places where persons are deprived of liberty.

The Workshop is scheduled as follows:
