Media Advisory: The SAHRC in the North West conducts a Provincial Enquiry into Allegations of Poor Infrastructure in Public Schools in the North west Province

ATTENTION: Editors and Reporters

On 24 March 2022, the South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) North West Provincial Office will convene the second leg of the provincial investigative enquiry into allegations of inadequate infrastructure in public schools in the North West Province.

The provincial investigative enquiry forms part of an ongoing investigations of numerous complaints into allegations that the infrastructure of various schools in the North West Province does not comply with the relevant legislation, policies and norm and standards. In particular, the complaints raise allegations concerning deteriorating buildings, shortage of classrooms, asbestos roofing, lack of access to sufficient water and basic sanitation.

The MEC, Head of Department and the Administrator will be in attendance and make submissions on behalf of the Department of Education.

 The provincial hearing is scheduled to take place as follows:
