The Mpumalanga Provincial Office (MPO) will be commemorating Human Rights Day under the theme: “The Year of National Unity and Renewal: Promoting and Protecting Our Human Rights.”
The month of March is known as Human Rights Month and used to foster greater social cohesion, nation-building and a shared national identity. Part of the Commission’s statutory mandate is to oversee that the country combats racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and all related intolerances. There are opportunities for South Africans for unity in diversity, renewal and building of a cohesive society.
The commemoration is targeting representative from multiple sectors, including Chapter 9 and 10 Institutions, district and provincial government departments as well members of the community. Invited speakers will provide messages of support on the promotion and protection of human rights. The Commission amplifies the importance of safeguarding the rights of communities and emphasizes the need to ensure that rights are respected, promoted and protected.
The commemoration is scheduled to take place as follows:
