Media Advisory: SAHRC in the North West Province will conduct a workshop to induct Mahikeng Local Municipality Councillors on Human Rights

On 30 March 2022, the North West Provincial Office of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will conduct a workshop to induct Mahikeng Local Municipality councillors on human rights.

The capacity building workshop is aimed at empowering the newly elected councillors by heightening awareness about human rights and institutions that can help with redress for human rights violations with a specific focus on the role of the SAHRC in promoting, monitoring and protecting human rights. The capacity building workshop will also enable councillors to understand the role of local government in terms of chapter 7 of the Constitution.  

The SAHRC will also use the capacity building workshop to build partnerships with Mahikeng Local Municipality with the view to improve service delivery.

The workshop is scheduled to take place as follows:
