Media Advisory: The South African Human Rights Commission to probe alleged continual harassment by Mogale City Municipality against homeless people in Krugersdorp

On Friday, 17 June 2022, the South African Human Rights Commission’s (“the Commission”) Provincial Manager will visit Mogale City following reports of continued harassment and abuse by the Mogale City Public Safety unit against homeless people.

It is alleged the latest incident happened on 14 June 2022 where City officials burned blankets, clothes, and belongings of homeless people. This incident has prompted the Commission to initiate an own investigation into these allegations and the perceived systemic attacks on homeless people in general.
