Attention: Editors and Reporters
22 JUNE 2022
Human rights are universal legal guarantees protecting individuals and groups against actions and omissions that interfere with fundamental freedoms, entitlements, and human dignity. South Africa is hailed as one of the leading economic countries in the African continent, with one of the most celebrated Constitutions in the world because of its progressive human rights framework.
Without active monitoring, however, the rights in the Constitution are at risk of being a pipe dream. For this reason, in 2021/2022, the Commission embarked on various monitoring activities in an attempt to address challenges of human rights violations in detention centres, healthcare facilities, schools, psychiatric institutions, local municipalities, places accommodating older persons and places accommodating people with disabilities.
The Commission will be conducting a stakeholder engagement to share information on its 2021/2022 monitoring activities, as well as the Commission’s monitoring plans for 2022/2023.
The event is scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: 23 June 2022
Venue: Protea Hotel by Marriott, Nelspruit
Time: 10h00 – 15h00
