Media Statement: Postponement of the SAHRC’s KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Inquiry on Access to Water in the province

01 July 2022

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) regrets the postponement of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Inquiry on Access to Water. The Inquiry was scheduled to commence this Monday, 04  to 15 July 2022.

The postponement is necessitated by challenges involving scheduling as the Commission seeks to hear a range of stakeholders, some of whom are no longer able to attend during the scheduled dates. Rescheduling the hearing has been prioritized by the Commission to commence at the earliest possible time in the future. Given historical challenges around access to water in many parts of the province, the Commission will continue its ongoing efforts to intervene with a view to securing interim access while new hearing dates are scheduled.

The Commission will communicate new dates for the Inquiry shortly.
