Media Advisory: SAHRC Eastern Cape to conduct Moot Court Workshops in the Amathole East and West Districts

The South African Human Rights Commission, Eastern Cape Provincial Office (ECPO) working in partnership with the Eastern Cape Education Department ,Walter Sisulu University and Fort Hare University, will conduct workshops for schools in the Amathole East and West Districts in preparation of the moot court programme oral rounds to be held on 10 September 2022.

The National Schools Moot Court Competition/Programme (NSMCC) is an annual moot court competition aimed at creating greater consciousness and understanding in South African schools and communities about the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the human rights values embodied by it through the active participation of learners in a moot court competition.

The NSMCC comprises of a hypothetical legal scenario, wherein, multiple questions on human rights issues are highlighted. The learners have to argue opposing views, based on the hypothetical case provided, using national, regional, international and where applicable, foreign legal instruments.

The workshops will take place as follows:
Date: 25th  of August 2022
Time:  10H00 – 13H00
Venues: Teacher’s Centre-Butterworth, Amathole East District
And
Date: 26th of August 2022
Time:  10H00 – 13H00
Venues: Intlantsi Christian School-Debe Nek, Amathole West District
