Media Advisory: SAHRC Eastern Cape Provincial Office to conduct a stakeholder engagement on the living conditions of the occupiers of the Glen Boyd Farm in Makhanda

The Constitution provides that everyone is equal before the law and has the right to equal protection, benefit of the law. Further everyone has the right to have their dignity respected and protected.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Office (ECPO) confirms having received a complaint from the occupiers of the Glen Boyd Farm in Makana. Their complaint relates to, amongst others, their living conditions, safety and security and evictions. 

It is against this background, the ECPO will be conducting an information sharing session on occupiers’ rights and conduct an inspection in loco around the residential area within the farm. 

The event will be attended by all relevant government departments and civil society organizations in order to ventilate challenges faced by farm occupiers.

The stakeholder engagement is scheduled to take place as follows:
